Guest Post: Why AI Agent Identities Need Post Quantum Cryptography
AI agents need quantum-resistant identity signatures, not only quantum-resistant encryption.
Transcript
Edmund AI agents may need post-quantum identities before they become trusted everywhere.
Edmund Most quantum-security talk starts with encrypted data. Record it now, crack it later. That problem is real, and migration has begun.
Edmund But agents also need to prove who they are. They do that with digital signatures, often built on RSA or elliptic-curve cryptography.
Edmund A capable quantum computer could break those systems and forge signatures. Then a fake agent could look legitimate to software that trusts its key.
Edmund That matters because agent systems will make requests, approve actions, and exchange credentials without a person checking every step.
Edmund The essential insight: protecting an agent’s messages is only half the job. Its identity proof has to survive the same cryptographic shift… or trust breaks at the handshake.
Edmund Today, read NIST’s post-quantum cryptography standards and inventory where your products use RSA or elliptic-curve signatures for agent or service identity.
Edmund The next agent upgrade may be less about intelligence, and more about proving it.
